INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT IN CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA
You’ve spent years building what you have. Now you want someone watching it day to day, adjusting it as your life changes, and making sure it’s still invested the right way for where you are now.
Managing Investments
We're paid only by our clients.
Your interest always comes first.
An owner-operated firm.
Your money is held at Fidelity or Schwab.
WHAT IT INCLUDES
Investment management is the work of building a portfolio for your specific situation, watching it through every market, and adjusting it as your life and the markets change. Here’s what that looks like with us.
Your goals, your timeline, your tax situation, your spending, what you already own, and how much risk fits your life. We build the portfolio around all of it. As your situation changes, the portfolio changes with it.
Our portfolios focus primarily on stocks and stock ETFs. Bond or alternative funds may be included where appropriate. The mix depends on your goals, timeline and risk tolerance; diversification does not eliminate investment risk.
Fees and trading costs affect what remains in your account. We explain our management fee and the custodian or transaction costs that may apply.
Your investments are one piece of a larger picture that includes your retirement income, your tax situation, and your long-term goals. We manage the portfolio with all of that on the table.
OUR STRATEGIES
We use two core strategies, weighted differently for each client. G@RY focuses on established companies with steady earnings and consistent dividends. Growth & Opportunity emphasizes companies positioned for above-average growth. The balance between them depends on where you are in your investment life: accumulation, conservation, or distribution.
HOW WE HOLD YOUR MONEY
Charles Schwab and Fidelity Institutional are our primary custodian options. Your accounts remain in your name at the selected custodian. Acadia manages the investments under the authority in your agreement with us, while the custodian holds the assets.
Your custodian provides account access and statements showing balances, holdings and transactions.
Your accounts are titled to you. Trading authority and any authorization to deduct management fees are documented through your agreement with us and the custodian’s forms.
SIPC helps recover eligible customer cash and securities when a SIPC-member brokerage fails. It does not protect against investment losses. Review the protection available for your account with the custodian.
HOW IT WORKS
From the first call to the accounts being live and managed, the process is paced so you always know where things stand.
STEP 01
STEP 02
STEP 03
We build the portfolio based on what you’ve told us and what your full financial picture looks like. We place the trades, set up the account structure, and walk you through what you own and why we own it.
STEP 04
We do scheduled reviews at least twice a year, and more often when something in your life or in the markets calls for it. If you have a question between reviews, you call or email Frank. You always reach the same person.
WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE US
The person who builds your portfolio is the person who manages it, who calls you when something needs attention, and who picks up when you call. You're working with the same person, every time.
You pay us directly for our advice and our management. That's our only source of revenue. No commissions, no product kickbacks. As a fiduciary, we're legally required to act in your best interest.
Frank has managed money through 2008, 2020, and every market in between. What holds a plan together in a downturn is having someone beside you who has walked clients through one before.
The firm is independently owned. We answer to our clients and no one else. No parent company setting product quotas, no sales targets, nothing on the shelf to push.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Investment management with us is a percentage of the assets we manage, at the same rate for every client at the same asset level. The first conversation is free, and we walk you through pricing on that call.
The firm holding an account needs to let us manage it with your permission. Fidelity Institutional and Charles Schwab are our main options. We’ll explain whether an account needs to move. Accounts we aren’t managing can stay where they are.
Taxable brokerage accounts, traditional IRAs, Roth IRAs, rollover IRAs from old 401(k)s, SEP and SIMPLE IRAs for self-employed clients, and trust accounts. If you have something less common, ask on the first call.
Our main strategies focus on stocks and stock ETFs. We may include bond or alternative funds when appropriate for the account. The mix reflects your goals, timeline, risk tolerance and the agreed strategy.
This comes up often. If you have positions with large unrealized gains, we work around them. We build the rest of the portfolio with that holding in mind, and we plan any sales over time in a way that manages the tax impact.
A robo-advisor invests your money in a model portfolio and rebalances it automatically. For some people that’s enough. With us, you get someone who knows your full financial picture, who adjusts the portfolio when your life changes, and who picks up the phone when you have a question.
Scheduled reviews at least twice a year, and more often when something calls for it. Between reviews, you can reach Frank directly. Most clients end up in contact several times a year as life raises questions.
