WHAT IT INCLUDES

What a financial plan with us covers

A financial plan is a set of decisions that fit together. Your savings, your investments, your retirement timeline, your taxes, your insurance, and what happens to the people in your life. We look at all of it and give you a plan that makes sense of the whole picture.

Cash flow and savings

We start with what's coming in, going out, and left over. How much you're saving, where it's going, and whether the pace gets you where you need to be.

Retirement timeline

When you can stop working, how much you'll have when you do, and what your income will look like once you're there. See our Retirement Planning page for the retirement transition itself.

Investment strategy

How your money should be invested given your goals, your timeline, and what you already own. See our Investment Management page for ongoing portfolio management.

Tax planning

How your accounts are taxed today, how they'll be taxed in retirement, and the decisions you can make now that lower the bill later. Roth conversions, withdrawal sequencing, tax-loss harvesting.

Insurance and risk

We review your coverage and tell you what makes sense for your situation. Any recommendation is based on the plan, not a product we sell. Life, long-term care, disability.

Estate basics

Beneficiary designations, account titling, and whether your current documents match what you want to happen. We work through the basics and tell you when to bring in an attorney.

WHAT YOU RECEIVE

What you walk away with

A written plan, in a format you can read and follow. It covers where you stand today, where you’re headed, and the specific decisions we recommend along the way.

A clear picture of where you stand

Your full financial picture in one place: accounts, balances, cash flow, savings rate, investment allocation, and the questions you came in with.

A sequence of decisions for the next 5–10 years

The decisions you need to make, when to make them, and what order they go in. Each one specific to your situation, with the numbers behind it.

Answers to the questions that brought you in

Can I retire at 62? Should I convert my IRA to Roth? Am I saving enough? We answer the questions you came in with directly, with the math behind them.

A plan you understand

We walk you through the document together in a meeting. You ask questions, we make changes, and we keep going until it fits. You leave with a plan you understand and know how to use.

I highly recommend Frank. He's the Bodhizafa of financial advisors. I have sent several friends to him, and they have all repeatedly thanked me.

HOW IT WORKS

How we build your plan with you

From the first call to the money being invested, the process is paced so you always know where things stand.

STEP 01

A first conversation

A free call with Frank. You tell him what’s on your mind, what you have today, and what you’re trying to figure out. He asks questions. By the end, you have a clearer sense of whether a financial plan is what you need and what working together would look like. Most calls run 30 to 45 minutes.

STEP 02

Getting the full picture

If we move forward, we gather your full financial picture. Account statements, pay stubs, a sense of your spending, any pensions, Social Security estimates, insurance policies, and the questions you want answered. We give you a checklist and we work through it together.

STEP 03

Building your plan

We take what we’ve gathered and build your plan. It covers the decisions you face, with the numbers behind them, in a format you can read and follow. It answers the specific questions you came in with.

STEP 04

Walking you through it

We meet and go through the plan together. You ask questions, we make changes, and we keep going until it fits. You leave with a plan you understand and know how to use.

STEP 05

Ongoing work

Some clients take the plan and put it to work on their own. Others decide they want help keeping it current and move their investment accounts to us for ongoing management. Either one works, and you decide after the plan is built, not before.

We work with clients in Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and across the surrounding Virginia communities, with some across the Commonwealth and beyond.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions people ask

A standalone financial plan is a flat fee. The amount depends on the complexity of your situation, and we walk you through pricing on the first call. If you later move to ongoing investment management with us, that’s a separate percentage-based fee on the assets we manage.
Yes. A standalone financial plan is a flat-fee engagement, and your accounts stay where they are. You get the plan, and what you do with it is up to you.
That’s one of the first things we figure out on the call. If your main question is how your money is invested, an Investment Management conversation might be the right starting point. If you have questions about retirement, taxes, insurance, savings rate, or how all the pieces fit together, a financial plan is where to start.
A retirement plan focuses on the retirement transition: when you can stop working, where your income will come from, and how to make the money last. A financial plan covers retirement as one piece of a larger picture that also includes savings, investments, taxes, insurance, and estate basics. For people who are five or more years from retirement, a financial plan is usually the better starting point. For people right at the retirement decision, a retirement plan is usually the focus.
If you have old 401(k)s from previous jobs, we cover them as part of the plan: whether to leave them where they are, roll them into an IRA, or consolidate them into one account. See our 401(k) Rollovers and Account Consolidation page for more on that specific decision.
Most plans take four to six weeks from the first meeting to the final walkthrough. The timeline depends on how quickly we can gather the documents from you and how complex your situation is.
A free phone call. You can schedule it with the button below or call the number at the bottom of the page.

Let's talk about your plan.

The first step is a free call. You’ll leave with a clearer sense of whether a financial plan is what you need and what the next move is.
